VA Work Study Student Position
Work with our Veterans Urban Farm as a work study student! This is a very flexible position where you will gain valuable experience in service, agriculture, program management, event planning, outreach, and self-development.
Eligibility:
Must be using and actively enrolled with GI bill benefits
Must be at least 3/4 time in school aka 9+ credit hours in Spring/Fall or 5+ in Summer semester
Must be comfortable working outside and getting dirty

Kids Garden Education VISTA
CCUA is looking for a motivated and passionate individual interested in helping expand our kid’s educational programming! The VISTA in this one-year, full time service position will assist in developing school gardens and outdoor classroom spaces around Columbia. The VISTA will also create hands-on activities and lessons for school children to encourage healthy eating habits and explore the natural world around us. This is the perfect opportunity for someone interested in working with kids and creating moments for meaningful connections to the outdoors.
This position is in partnership with AmeriCorps VISTA. VISTA members receive a living stipend through AmeriCorps VISTA. In addition, the VISTA will receive an AmeriCorps health benefit, Primary Care through Big Tree Medical, a garden plot at the farm, free vegetables, plants, and seeds, as well as a $200/month housing stipend. Relocation allowance and childcare assistance is available to those who qualify.
Veterans Urban Farm Farmhand Apprentice
The Farmhand Apprenticeship position with CCUA’s Veterans Urban Farm seeks to offer a learning experience for Veterans passionate about working outside, sustainable food systems, and growing their own food. The Apprenticeship is designed to prepare Veterans who need a gateway into the workforce. During the Apprenticeship, the Farmhand will learn sustainable and regenerative agriculture methods of vegetable production, landscaping, food safety, and other hands-on skills while working alongside the Veterans Urban Farm Manager. The Veterans Urban Farm Manager will direct the Farmhand Apprentice towards projects, allowing the Apprentice to hone the skills needed to prepare for a desired job/career.
Farm to School Educator
CCUA is looking for an enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with kids and spending time outside gardening and exploring nature. The Farm to School Educator (FSE) is a full-time year-round position working alongside CCUA’s Youth Education team, Columbia Public Schools’ Farm to School Coordinator, and other community partners. The FSE will: provide educational experiences in a variety of locations within Boone County, work collaboratively and independently to develop educational activities for indoor/outdoor classroom settings, help maintain the outdoor classrooms and garden beds at CCUA’s main site- Columbia’s Agriculture Park, and support the school gardens in the Farm to School program.

Planting for the Pantry AmeriCorps VISTA
Number of positions available: 3
CCUA is looking for individuals who are passionate about food insecurity, farming, and working with volunteers. These one-year, full time service positions start in July-August 2025. VISTAs will assist in developing Columbia’s Agriculture Park, specifically our Planting for the Pantry plot. In this position you will lead volunteers, assist in projects on the farm, and be an integral part of the crop planning, seeding, transplanting, harvesting, washing, packing, and tracking of the produce grown in our fields.
